ABSTRACT

Health and wellness services and therefore tourism can be managed at national, regional and local level. At national level both national and voluntary organizations can play a role in the management of health and wellness tourism:

● State authorities and offi ces often support and control health and wellness services with the preparation of national health, wellness or medical tourism strategies and development plans. In these, the main directions for development are defi ned. State organizations, such as a department of health can certify and monitor services providers in health and wellness, furthermore, state institutions defi ne parameters based on which, for example, a spring or a cave can call itself a medical asset. To complete the management process, national tourist organizations run research projects and promotion campaigns supporting the image of the country (or region) and its health oriented destinations. Besides in some countries schemes are in operation (partially) fi nanced by the state or by private health insurance companies providing support for health oriented trips.
