Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs)

The largest vehicles within the caravan of normal traffic which cross our

bridges are the heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). They are one of the prime

movers of a countries raw materials and merchandise, and travel along routes

set aside for primary distribution, either alone or in an intermodal configu-

ration (Lowe, 2005). The three most common are shown in Figure 14.1.
