ABSTRACT

We begin this section of the book with a discussion on reflection. We do this

because each research method discussed has embedded within it the need for

critical reflection. In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the

notions of reflection and reflective practice in a number of professions such

as nursing, education and management. Edwards (1999) in his seminal work

on the application of reflective practice to sport management research and

practice raised our consciousness about the need for its application to be

diffused into our research methods and daily sport management practice.

Following this path mapped out by Edwards, this chapter discusses the

importance and need for ongoing reflective practices to be mandatory in

qualitative sport management research and professional practice.
