ABSTRACT

After reading this chapter, you should be able to:

Understand higher education policy in the UK with an emphasis on entrepreneurial behaviour amongst university students and the role of innovation in tourism;

Understand the role of internships (placements) as a mechanism to inculcate positive dispositions towards entrepreneurship;

Appreciate the impact of internships on tourism students undertaking internship programmes in SMEs;

Understand the theoretical context of the entrepreneurial event based on Ajzen’s theory of planned behaviour and Shapero’s theories; and

Understand the interconnections between internship programmes and entrepreneurial intentions and how these will be of value to policy-makers.
