ABSTRACT
Organizational structure is a phenomenon that has spawned a large number
of textbooks and research articles designed to explain the finer points of
organizational structure, as well as its impact on organizational performance,
employee behaviour, culture and the drivers of change in relation to organi
zational structure. Rather than replicate some already excellent existing
material on this topic, this chapter highlights the unique aspects of the
structure of sports organizations. Consequently, this chapter reviews the key
concepts of organizational structure, provides examples of the unique
features of sport organization structures and summarizes the key research
findings on the structure of sport organizations. The chapter also provides
a summary of principles for managing organizational structures within
community, state, national and professional sport organizations.
