ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the ways in which sport organizations can manage

their operations and evaluate their performance. Particular attention will be

given to the special features of sport organizations and how these features

create the need for a customized performance management model. The

imperative of using a multidimensional model of performance management

will be highlighted, together with the need to accommodate the conflicting

demands that arise from the claims of multiple stakeholders. Throughout

the chapter, cases and incidents will be used to illustrate the concepts and

principles that underpin effective performance in sport organizations.
