ABSTRACT

A surround system is typically a minimum of double the system cost, perhaps triple and even quadruple the cost of a stereo or two-channel system. A subwoofer is a separate enclosure or speaker box from the other speakers, in the system. Its sole function is to play back bass sounds in the very low frequencies. There are essentially two types of systems; one where the bass is separated out using a crossover and the same amplifier is used to power the satellites, is known as a “passive” dual bandpass. Generally, speaker monitors have power amplifiers built into them. Audio interfaces have come a long, long way in recent years. While it used to be common knowledge that cheaper cards were poor and more expensive cards were the only way to go, today a couple hundred dollars goes a very long way to recording great audio. Connecting everything together is almost an art form.
