ABSTRACT

Digital audio editor. When it comes to difficult audio, a digital audio editor will be your best friend. This chapter discusses some great, practical ways of using such a tool to help multimedia producers deal with difficult edits. Simply activate the fade tool in their digital audio editor or nonlinear editor, then insert their points and drag as appropriate until it looks like a smile. Don’t go too far in gain reduction; just enough so that the audio is not as noticeable but still there. Multimedia producers can probably dip the audio to a little below 25% of its original strength. Audio engineers tend to use noise gates a lot since they can also help problematic audio that has noise in-between dialog. However, the result can be somewhat harsh and artificial to the ear if not used correctly.
