ABSTRACT

Professional recording studios dedicate a large portion of their budget to the building of a room; often more than the cost of the gear itself, because the gear can easily be changed out, but the room cannot. Bass frequencies are the toughest to deal with. They need an entirely different treatment method than do higher frequencies. Low frequencies will mess with the overall perceived frequency response of a room, where higher frequencies are somewhat compensated for in the ear. A room meant for recording Automatic Dialog Replacement (ADR) needs to have no real ambience to it, it merely needs to be clean, free of flutter, echo, or reverb. These audio filters and effects are all added in the post-production process. The cleaner the recording, the more that can be done with it in the post-production process. Voiceover audio is very different from ADR audio.
