ABSTRACT

With the exception of certain rather specialist applications involving pipework embedded in the building structure, there are very few items of heat emitting equipment which could not be used in conjunction with the whole range of water and steam distribution media. That is not to say however that such use would be equally effective in all cases nor that it would always be acceptable from the point of view of avoidance of burns. Exposed heating surfaces must not be accessible to touch if the temperature exceeds 80 °C and in many circumstances a lower level of about 70 °C is to be preferred.*

Normal design temperatures For water systems, recommended operating temperatures at the standard UK design external temperature (see Chapter 2) are given in Table 7.1, but this does not preclude the use of higher flow temperatures when external conditions are more severe than this datum level.
