A successful distribution strategy starts in the preproduction stage. It’s a big mistake for filmmakers to go into production without first understanding how they will be selling their film. If it’s an art film you are making, that’s perfectly fine, do whatever you want. If you want to sell your film and make your investors’ money back, you need to shoot your movie with distribution in mind and make certain it is deliverable.
