12.2.3 Hipped (or Hip-ended) Roof This design is also used in modern roofi ng, but to a lesser extent. The hipped ends are normally the same pitch as the main roof and therefore each hip is 45 ° in plan. In traditional roofi ng, the purlins are continuous around the roof and all the old roofi ng skills are needed. In modern roofi ng, the hip-ends are either constructed traditionally (by cut and pitch methods) or by using hip trusses supplied with the main trusses; either way, a method for fi nding lengths and bevels will be required at this stage.
