ABSTRACT

Legal immigration to the US experienced marked changes in the recent past. Immigrants from Europe have been replaced by immigrants from Asia and Latin America as shown in Table 5.1 . 1 More recent data shows that these trends continue. In this table 2 the reader can see that immigration to the US from North America (including Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean) 3 combined with South America constitutes almost half (44%) of all legal immigration to the US, and that trend has grown in the last decade.
