ABSTRACT
What’s it like to be a novice scriptwriter? What are your problems? What steps do you take as you begin your career? To give you some sample answers, let’s talk to Craig Guthery, a 27-year-old man from Oklahoma City getting his profession underway in the Washington, D.C., area. He had spent six years in the Navy as a nuclear power plant operator. Some of that time was in the training division. He had lived in a variety of places. By avocation he also was a rock musician, a vocalist. He had had three semesters of basic requirements at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1979 and 1980. After he was discharged from the Navy he went to the University of Oklahoma in 1987 for a semester in film and radio. He had one course in film scriptwriting with Joye R. Swain, but he never did finish his degree. Then he went to Washington, D.C.
