ABSTRACT

Adult learning specialists are committed to helping adults learn. This zealousness often leads to too much focus on the instructor/ facilitator maintaining control. Backing away can be hard, and acknowledging that “one way of gaining control is by giving up control” is not an easy lesson. This chapter discusses the process of letting go so as to release energy in others. Releasing the energy of others requires paying attention to the Andragogy in Practice model. Specifically the six Core Adult Learning Principles along with attention to Individual Learner Differences and the Situational Differences present in any learning environment.
