ABSTRACT

Aquifer analysis is required for groundwater remediation because the water must be extracted and treated at the surface. The aquifer test program will typically follow the site definition study. Thus, monitoring wells have been installed at locations at which both chemical and potentiometric data can be collected. Boring logs and cross sections should be checked for possible boundary conditions. The lateral and horizontal extent of the strata could indicate possible conductive units where water yield could increase or decrease. Recharge to the aquifer may occur through overlying or underlying aquitards. If observation monitoring wells are placed in the aquitard or near the aquitard contact, changes of water levels could indicate leakage. The site investigation data of the aquitards may yield information on the possibility of leakage. Instantaneous well testing or “slug” testing can be used to measure hydraulic conductivity around boreholes, such as production, monitoring to test wells.
