The modem day video gambling device manufacturer has learned that diversion and evolution are very important to their future. The new machines include features which attempt to hide the real nature of the device. In today’s video gambling device market, an investigator must be part bloodhound and part computer wizard. The use of ploys to make entry are effective when dealing with a local bar with a closed circle of patrons. In FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin for March and April 1985, Special Agent William L. Holmes wrote about the complex elements of video-gambling devices. Agent Holmes names and defines the terms that are used in the identification of illegal gambling devices. Two of the terms that he defines follow: knock-off feature and meters.
