The process of evaporation is as old as the process of solar evaporation of sea water to obtain salt. In the process of evaporation, usually a weak solution of a nonvolatile material is concentrated by the evaporation and removal of the solvent, which most often is water. The product can either be the clean solvent (sea water desalinization, boiler feedwater preparation) or the concentrated solution (corn or maple syrup, etc.). In some specialized applications (nuclear wastes), there is no marketable product.
