ABSTRACT

United Way of Middle Tennessee (UWMT) consists of Davidson County (Nashville) and 13 regional partner counties. Davidson County represents 85% of the total campaign and has over one half of the population covered in the 14-county region. Founded in 1922 in Nashville, UWMT expanded into a regional operation in 1986. UWMT is a member of United Way of America and a member of the Tennessee Association of United Ways. The primary supplier groups for UWMT are the agencies whose programs are funded through outcome-based investments. UWMT has determined that its direction must be comprised of a dual strategy. UWMT’s quality journey began in 1993 with the appointment of a new President and CEO who was committed to transforming the organization based on quality improvement principles. This journey initially involved gaining the Board of Trustees support and providing that group with an orientation and overview of a process improvement plan.
