ABSTRACT

The ultrasound diagnosis of uterine leiomy omata is based on uterine enlargement, distor tion of the contour, and textural changes. Leiomyomata are usually multiple; they vary in size and location across the wall of the uterus, which may be precisely evaluated by ultra sound.3 The most common are intramural and the least common are submucous leiomyomata.4 Clinically, symptoms such as metrorrhagia, pelvic pain, or infertility are present in most patients with submucous leiomyomata, while subserous leiomyomata are predominantly asymptomatic. However, the severity of symp toms depends greatly on the number, size, and location of the leiomyomata.
