ABSTRACT
In the patient with a prosthetic heart valve, echocardiography is essential for evaluation of valve haemodynamics, ventricular function, pulmonary pressures and detection of prosthetic valve dysfunction. The echocardiographic evaluation of prosthetic valves is similar to that of native valves with a few key differences. First, normal fluid dynamics and flow velocities differ, depending on valve design and size.1
