Trust, innovation and entrepreneurship

Is the new proposition that trust promotes innovation – so far tested only against data for Internet diffusion – tenable? If so, one should also find support for it outside the specific field of technology. With Thomas Volken, I therefore extended the analysis and looked at another specific institutional sphere, the politico-economic: does generalized trust also predict the willingness to make fundamental economic changes? Then we looked at openness towards change in general. This was done by analysing: (a) the willingness to accept new ideas and (b) the propensity to act in order to bring change about.
