Regional integration and economic growth: the case of the EU

In the preceding chapter I summarized our research on the remarkable relaunch of European integration since the 1980s and the actors involved therein. This and the following chapter reflect on the economic consequences of this change in the European political economy. Research into the policy fields which, at a supranational level, shaped those parameters which affect national growth included three core areas: market creation (deepening and expansion), technology policy, and regional, structural, and cohesion policies (see Bornschier 2000b).
