ABSTRACT
I exist as a thinking thing; the material world exists; and there is one part of that material world which stands in a quite special relation to the thinking thing that I am – my body. What is it for a body, a certain mechanical system, to be my body? If I, strictly speaking, am my soul (as Descartes, against St Thomas, held) what is the relation of my soul to my body?
