ABSTRACT

Each kidney is composed of around one million coiled tubes of epithelial tissue known as nephrons. Each nephron is composed of a renal corpuscle, where the plasma is filtered, and a renal tubule, where substances are reabsorbed from or added to the filtrate. The various parts of the nephron have specific names. The renal corpuscle is made up of the glomerular capillaries and Bowman's capsule, whereas the renal tubule is made up of the proximal tubule, the loop of Henle, the distal tubule, the collecting tubule, and the collecting duct.
