ABSTRACT
Jones (1993: 44) notes that parents, by law, can:
express a preference of school for their children where this is practicable;
participate in the management of their children’s school as elected parent governors;
attend an annual governors’ meeting for parents and pass resolutions;
receive information about the school prescribed by statutory regulations, including the outcomes of the assessment of existing pupils;
receive an annual report on the progress made by their children, including plans of their work within the National Curriculum; • discuss this report with a named teacher at the school;
be consulted by governors on the provision of sex education at school;
be involved, where appropriate, in the assessment and review of children with special needs;
in 1993, under new national arrangements for inspection, receive a summary of the inspection report and governors’ plans to tackle any problem areas;
have an opportunity to contribute their views to the inspection team.
