Jack Warner of Warner Brothers had a low opinion if not of literacy certainly of writers, whom he described as, ‘Schmucks with typewriters’. But fortunately the ability to read and write, if you are not a film magnate, is prized and has been the subject of a series of government initiatives since the 1997 General Election.
