ABSTRACT

Charles Burgess Fry was in need of no development at all, excelling in everything he tried. An Oxford scholar and a triple blue, he also became a superb sportsman after college. A first division footballer and for a time the world long jump holder, Fry was also an expert tennis player and represented England at athletics and cricket. When in his seventies, the all rounder was chided by a friend for being such a one man band. Fry had announced his intention to open a racing stables and become involved in the sport when his friend enquired, ‘In what capacity, trainer, jockey or horse?’
