ABSTRACT

The effect of molecular organization on the kinetics of urethane formation was investigated for the reaction of 2,4-toluelenediisocyanate with different oligobutadienediols in the presence/absence of a catalyst (tin dibutyldilaurate). 130The kinetic parameters for this reaction were found to depend on relative amount and type of associated hydroxyl groups in starting oligobutadienediols (autoassociated and π-conjugated) and reaction products (autoassociated, π-conjugated, and associated with urethane groups). Mathematical modelling of the reaction was performed. The concentrations of all hydroxyl associates were calculated numerically. For the oligomeric systems under study, we investigated the effect of associates on the polyurethane (PU) formation in the presence/absence of catalysts.
