ABSTRACT
Introduction A professorial lecture has many purposes. One is to enable the professor to pose questions in respect of scholarship throughout the chosen field and to reflect at some length upon her or his past work (one of the many reasons why I prefer attending inaugural lectures given by younger members of staff).
