ABSTRACT

On the last day of May in 1984 I dove in shallow waters and sustained a C6/C7 spinal cord injury. At the time of my injury I was working as an anesthesiologist at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. I was 30 years of age and I was preparing for my wedding that was due on 15 June the same year. I was on the verge of starting my professional life and also my family life when this tragedy hit our little family. This was the first day of my new life as a tetraplegic man.
