ABSTRACT
This chapter will explore the potential infectious etiology of psychiatric disorders, especially schizotypal personality disorder. These findings will be examined in the context of the neurodevelopmental hypothesis of mental disorders. The evidence for the proposed paradigm points to a disruption of normal brain development during a critical prenatal period which increases the risk for adult schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
