ABSTRACT

Introduction Oral mucositis is a significant problem in patients receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Mucositis incidence is highly dependent on the treatment modalities. Among patients receiving standard chemotherapy, mucositis ranges from 10% to 40%, according to the type of chemotherapy. Virtually all patients who receive radiotherapy to the head and neck area develop oral complications. About 75% of the recipients of stem cell transplant have a significant oral mucositis.
