ABSTRACT
Introduction Anemia is defined as a reduced number of circulating erythrocytes in peripheral blood or as a reduced level of hemoglobin (Hb). Anemia can be graded by considering the hemoglobin as mild, moderate, severe and life-threatening. The criteria of the World Health Organization and of the National Cancer Institute grading anemia according to Hb are given in Table 16.1.
