ABSTRACT

The nature of physical education is such that there is tremendous potential for your lessons to be ruined by poor organisation and management. This has a detrimental effect on your confidence, but more importantly on the quality of pupils’ learning. Good organisation and management are therefore paramount if you are to develop an environment in which all pupils can learn effectively. A positive lesson climate provides the most effective learning environment. This is consistent with and supports a positive or preventative approach to behaviour management in which pupils have a key role to play. This approach is called ‘behaviour for learning’ (see Garner, 2005, for more information). This approach is consistent with an inclusive schooling approach (see Chapter 11).
