Studying Regional Aspects of Polar Bear (Ursus Maritimus) Ecology in the Russian Arctic Using Satellite Data

This chapter presents an example of polar bear regional ecology studies using microwave satellite data. The main aspects of these studies include regional and seasonal changes in habitat parameters; daily, seasonal and annual variability of movement rates; individual and group specific direction and migration patterns, and the character of using a particular type of habitat. Dr. Gerald Garner (the Alaska Biological Science Center) made many contributions to this work.
