ABSTRACT
Science fiction (SF) is a genre of science-oriented literature that emerged with the first SF magazine Amazing Stories published in 1926 by Hugo Gernsback (1884-1967) who later coined the term “science fiction.” Although SF publishing is dominated by novels, the subculture is anchored in professional magazines, fan magazines called “fanzines,” local SF clubs, the Science Fiction Writers of America (which gives the Nebula awards), and the annual World Science Fiction Convention (which gives the Hugo awards).
