Failure Mode and Effects Analysis is applied to a wide variety of products, from singlecomponent systems to complex multi-component systems. As discussed in the preceding chapters, recent applications of FMEA have extended the analysis to the processes by which a product is built as well as to the software that contains the instructions for the functionality of the system
Hardware FMEA
Hardware FMEAs are applied to electrical, mechanical and hydraulic subsystems and the interfaces between these subsystems. The technique is first applied early in the design cycle after the major functional components and their interfaces have been defined.
