ABSTRACT

DNA mutagenesis is generally defined as any process through which an altered deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequence is produced. It is a technology that plays an important role in determining the functions of different gene domains; in the identification of transcriptional regulatory sequences such as promoters, enhancers and silencer elements; and in the production of DNA constructs.1-6 While there are many variations on mutagenesis techniques, the present chapter describes several wellestablished methods, including DNA deletions and oligonucleotide site-directed mutagenesis. However, it does not address the use of mutagenic reagents or the use of radiation to generate random mutations.
