ABSTRACT

Gases used in terrorist attacks are the same as those of chemical warfare. The term usually refers to the use of chemical agents, both lethal and nonlethal, that may attack one or more targets in the human body. These include nerve gases, which may induce temporary blindness, deafness, paralysis, nausea, or vomiting; caustic gases, which may cause severe burns to skin, eyes, or lungs; other types of gases, which may stifle respiration. Also included are chemical defoliants and herbicides for military purposes, such as those used in the Vietnam War.
