The previous chapters in this text have provided a framework for a proactive, thoughtful, and purposeful method for supervising new professionals in higher education. This chapter explores the various challenges and opportunities related to supervising a particular group of new professionals-students in a practice experience such as internship or practicum. These supervised practice experiences are often the first time graduate students in preparation programs have the opportunity to put the theories they learn in the classroom into practice in a real work setting. The supervisor is then, in addition to providing the on-site work supervision, serving as an educator and often working in conjunction with a faculty member to help the student learn and explore various issues from his or her experience.
