ABSTRACT

The nation’s publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) daily address a number of planning, operations, maintenance, management and regulatory compliance issues to provide cost-effective, environmentally sound and technically reliable collection, treatment or disposal of wastewater for their ratepayers. Although most POTW personnel are primarily concerned with the treatment of wastewater and residuals and receiving water quality, POTW managers must also deal with air quality issues relating to emissions of odors, criteria pollutants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
