Unlike traditional monastic movements, there does not appear to have been a prescribed size for Humiliati houses, and the evidence suggests there was a vast variety in the number of members attached to any one house.1 While difficult, it is worthwhile to attempt to quantify the size and sex ratio of the group as this can tell us much regarding the appeal of the movement.
