Pages 29

In the previous chapter we made some important observations about the ways in which music has been discussed over the centuries and the ways in which it can be discussed today. In this chapter we will consider in more detail the discursive formations which have dominated western thinking and how they have shaped the ways in which music has been talked about. Most importantly, our task here will be to account for and at times to deconstruct the aesthetic and ideological priorities of the dominant music discourses of the west.
