ABSTRACT
Introduction Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a form of dementia characterized by a progressive loss of cognitive function (memory, reasoning and behaviour) caused by the degeneration of neurons in the brain. It affects 5% of the population after the age of 65 and 30% after 85. This already high percentage will certainly rise further because of an ageing population and through earlier diagnosis.
