ABSTRACT

The notion of ‘social responsibility’ in construction is not a new theme in the American continent; recently it became a clear source of competitive advantage. International organisations, trade unions, human rights lobbyists and regulators have contributed to bring the attention of construction companies to ethical business behaviour. Nowadays, with an ever-increasing frequency in this continent, construction companies are coming under scrutiny to prove that their activities are conducted in a way that is socially acceptable to those who may be touched by it.
