ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to place current debates about corporate social responsibility (CSR) in a broader context. The adopted perspective is underpinned by a belief that concepts such as CSR are grounded in broader processes of social and political change. The chapter primarily focuses on the evolution of CSR within the specific context of the UK construction sector. Nevertheless, many of the trends described have global resonance; readers from other countries will therefore be able to make their own comparisons.
