ABSTRACT

Over the years, there has been much anxiety and uncertainty among the media, patients, and medical practitioners following reports of complications and even deaths due to liposuction. In this respect there is a considerable need for clarification, because a multitude of misunderstandings and misinterpretations have unjustifiably brought the procedure into disrepute. There is often confusion about the definition of the anesthesia method used.At present, there is still insufficient official epidemiological data on the actual frequency of severe complications or deaths as a result of liposuction1-3.
