ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book builds on "The Site Agent's Handbook", to both update and widen its application to Main and Subcontractors operating in Civil Engineering, Construction and Process as well as to make it relevant to an international market. Whereas the legal and business framework is different around the world, the management disciplines are identical. It discusses the tender contains all the assumptions and base productivity data that a Site Manager needs to manage any project. The book considers the disciplines and actions required when starting up a project. The purpose of any Contractor is to generate profit and this is achieved by rigorous cost control. Contributing to this aim is the successful management of Subcontractors and labour. It examines the basis of a contract and the key contractual actions for Site Management.
