Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Cochrane, GCB, the third of the Admiral Cochranes at this period, and the son of Sir Alexander COCHRANE. He went to sea in 1796; 1805, Lieutenant (aged sixteen); 1805, Commander; 1806, Captain; 1841, Rear-Admiral; 1850, Vice-Admiral; 1856, Admiral; 1865, Admiral of the Fleet.
